PAULA HUNT
Paula is Prinicpal and Director of the Paula Hunt Dance Studio. As a dual examiner of the Royal Academy of Dance, Paula is a teacher at her Dance Studio and examines internationally for Graded Examinations and Vocational Graded Examinations. She has also been on the faculty of many international summer schools, most recently in Singapore, Munich and London.

She founded and directs the annual Wellington Summer School offering a broad spectrum of dance and educational experiences to many students throughout New Zealand. Profit from the Wellington Summer School enables Paula to fund a development programme, the Wellington Regional Dance Scholars, a course for young and talented dancers.

Paula participated in the development of the National Dance Unit Standards for the New Zealand Qualifications Authority and also sits on the Board of Studies for the New Zealand School of Dance.

For a number of years, Paula produced and choreographed for the annual sell out performances by the students of the academy at the Wellington opera House.

SUE NICHOLLS – Teacher, Ballet, Contemporary

Born in Wellington, New Zealand, Sue Nicholls trained at the National School of Ballet, graduating in 1974 into the New Zealand Ballet. She then joined London Festival Ballet (now English National Ballet). After returning home Sue started teaching which resulted in a position of ballet tutor at the New Zealand School of Dance from 1987-1998. In 1999 she returned to London to further her professional development through study.

 

Sue now teaches regularly at the Paula Hunt Dance Studios and freelances nationally and internationally. She is a Vocational Graded Examiner for the Royal Academy of Dance and teaches on the RAD BA (Hons) Dance in Education and Certificate of Ballet Teaching Studies, in partnership with Auckland University of Technology. Qualifications include the Royal Academy of Dance, Professional Dancer’s teaching Diploma (Distinction) and a 1st class Bachelor of Philosophy (Hons) in Ballet and Contextual Studies validated by Durham University, UK.

HELEN CALMAN- Tutor, Ballet
Helen began learning ballet at the age of eight with Lynne Billing and moved to England to undertake full time training.

Whilst overseas, Helen performed in a number of successful productions and also taught in England and Europe.

Since returning to New Zealand, Helen has been a dance teacher at the Paula Hunt Dance Studios and has also undertaken further teaching qualifications.

The Qualifications include the Royal Academy of Dance Teaching Certificate (Distinction) and an Associate in national dance (Distinction) from the I.S.T.D. In 2003 Helen became a Graded Examiner for the Royal Academy of Dance and has been appointed to their International Board of Examiners.


KALI GAZELY - Tutor, Ballet, Musical Theatre
Kali started ballet at 4 with K studio in hawkes bay.  Following in a heavy family history in the arts, Kali began singing and performing on stage in countless shows and productions. Kali Left Hawkes Bay to train in Musical Theatre in 2002, many roles and more shows later Kali came back to her first love ballet. She holds the Royal Academy of Dance Teaching Certificate.
 
Currently completing a double degree at Victoria University, Kali juggles teaching with an active performing career.

ANITA HUTCHINS - Tutor, Ballet, Jazz
Anita was born in New Zealand. At 16 she moved to London where she attended the Royal Ballet School for two years. On graduating, as top female student, she joined the Bayerisches Staatsballett in Munich, Germany, where she danced for three years. She then joined Nederlands Dans Theater II in Den Haag, Holland, for a year before returning to New Zealand.

Back home she went to film school, choreographed, taught, danced for Michael Parmenter and The Royal New Zealand Ballet. In 2006 she won the television contest ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ and released a self-produced and directed dance class DVD ‘MOVE-IT’. From 2007-2008 Anita danced with Phoenix Dance Theatre in Leeds, England. She has recently moved back to Wellington to go to University.
